Key Personnel
The Lab is currently composed of the following core personnel. Undergraduate and graduate students frequently rotate through the lab, gaining valuable hands-on experience while contributing to ongoing studies performed in the lab.
Salvatore Albani, MD, PhD, an internationally renowned pediatric rheumatologist and immunologist, has joined The University of Arizona College of Medicine as The Charles A.L. and Suzanne M. Stephens Chair of Rheumatology, director of the Arizona Arthritis Center, and professor of medicine and pediatrics.
A Center of Excellence at The University of Arizona College of Medicine, the Arizona Arthritis Center is dedicated to biomedical research into the causes and treatments of more than 100 forms of arthritis. Understanding the ways that arthritis, bone and connective tissue diseases start and progress is the key to helping people with arthritis lead healthier lives.
A recognized leader in the field of Rheumatology, Dr. Albani earned his medical degree and doctorate in Pediatrics from the University of Pavia, Italy. He completed his residency in Pediatric Rheumatology and Immunology and received a Residency Fellowship with the Scripps Research Foundation in California.
Aside from providing extensive expertise and mentorship to those working in the lab, devising and conducting research and analyses, Dr. Albani also holds regular clinic hours for pediatric patients.
Dr. Albani is affiliated with the EUREKA Institute for Translational Medicine and the IACOPO Translational Research Unit.
Lab Resources and Equipment
Nicole Schechter is the Lab manager. The Lab has 1400 square feet of fully equipped wet space, with a separate tissue culture room.The Albani Lab owns and maintains the following equipment: FACS, PCR, TaqMan, three laminar low hoods, one chemical hood, four CO2 incubators, three LN2 storage tanks, one fluorescence microscope and all other necessary equipment and disposables for immunology and molecular biology studies.
